
Keeping Bathrooms Warm Without Blinding the Baby
Most infrared heaters just blast a huge wave of radiation into the room. In a bathroom, that’s a problem. Especially if you’ve got a baby in the tub—that harsh, bright glare from a standard short-wave lamp can be absolutely blinding for them. We figured out a better way. Instead of just letting the light fly, we tweak the spectrum to push the energy away from the visible light and move it into the long-wave infrared band. It’s all about the eyes. This “eye-protection” thing isn’t some sales pitch; it’s just physics. We use special coatings or doped quartz glass to block out that intense blue and white light you usually get with halogen. By cutting out the visible glare, we stop that harsh light from hitting the retina. You still get all the cozy heat on the skin, but without the eye strain or the stress of a bright light shining right in a baby’s face. Getting the heat where it belongs. We designed these lamps to be precise. The reflectors are shaped to push the heat straight down in a controlled cone. Why? Because heating up the ceiling void is a waste of energy. We also use high-purity quartz. It means the element can handle being turned on and off quickly without burning out. Here is the trade-off, though. When you filter out the visible light, you lose a tiny bit of efficiency compared to a raw, uncoated tube. You might need a slightly higher wattage to get that same “toasty” feeling, but it’s a small price to pay for a safe environment. A few tips for the install. When you’re wiring these into the ceiling, keep your voltage stable. Voltage spikes are killers—they’ll eat through your filament in no time. Make sure your ballast or dimmer is actually rated for the lamp’s load so it doesn’t fail early. And one last thing: make sure it’s snug in the socket. These things expand and contract as they heat up, and a loose connection is just asking for trouble.
