
Why You Need Explosion-Proof Quartz in Your Bathroom Heater
Putting an infrared heater in a bathroom is a bit of a gamble if you’re using the wrong gear. You’ve got a heating element getting incredibly hot, sitting right in the middle of a room full of steam and splashes. Standard quartz tubes just can’t handle that. Imagine a tube sitting at 600°C and then—bam—a cold splash of water hits it. The glass panics. It shrinks too fast, it stresses out, and it shatters. Not exactly the vibe you want while you’re trying to dry off.
Dealing with the “Shock”
To stop the glass from exploding, we use explosion-proof quartz. Here’s the secret: this material doesn’t freak out when the temperature swings. It doesn’t expand or shrink violently, so when that cold water hits, the tube stays in one piece. Inside, there’s a tungsten filament. Once you flip the switch, it sends out short-wave infrared radiation. The cool part? It doesn’t waste time warming up the air in the room. It goes straight for your skin and the surfaces around you. It’s an instant, deep warmth.
Keeping the Water Out
A “waterproof” label is one thing, but real-world safety is another. It’s not just about a rubber ring around the edge. You have to keep steam away from the electrical guts. We use heavy-duty gaskets and reinforced housings to make sure moisture doesn’t sneak into the circuitry. If steam gets in there, you’re looking at a short circuit or a dead filament, and that’s a headache nobody needs.
The Reality Check
Now, “explosion-proof” doesn’t mean “indestructible.” These tubes run hot. Really hot. If you block the airflow or mount the heater too close to a wall that can catch fire, the whole housing will overheat. You’ve got to make sure the mounting bracket gives the unit some breathing room so the heat can actually escape. Otherwise, you’ll end up warping the chassis. And please, don’t skip the grounding. Since this is a wet environment, any little bit of leaking current is a massive safety risk. We always suggest using a dedicated GFCI circuit. That way, if something goes wrong, the power cuts instantly. Better safe than sorry.
